The Facit 4070 (1969) is a Swedish product. It punches up to 75 characters per second. Bidirectional operation is possible. Because it can be interfaced relatively simply to a modern PC, we use this unit routinely for making reader-test tapes and sometimes for duplicating worn-out tapes. Also the punch is very popular in demonstrations.

Tape readers and punchers have been used as peripheral devices for the input and output of data. The Facit 4070 device could punch a paper tape only and write with a maximum of 75 characters per second. It uses 5 to 8 track paper tape. The maximum length of a papertape for this device could be 300 m. Resulting in a storage of 120.000 characters.

The 59309A HP-IB Digital Clock is just that, a digital clock. The date and time can be both read and set via HP-IB. Today, engineers would typically drive automated test instruments from a computer that has real-time clock capability, but that generally wasn't the case in the 1970s. The 59309A allowed real-time clock functionality to be embedded with the test equipment. A controlling computer system would be able to poll other instruments for their measurements and time-stamp them with the date and time received from the 59309A, or poll the 59309A and issue commands to other test equipment based on the date and time. The instrument has a rear-panel BNC connector for an external 10MHz frequency reference, as well as external standby power. The related K10-59992 instrument is a battery box in the same enclosure style and size as the 59309A, intended to be mounted with it in a cabinet. Interface Type: GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus), also known as HP-IB (Hewlett-Packard Interface Bus). Use Case: Designed to control and interface with instruments and devices that support GPIB communication. Compatibility: Compatible with HP (now HPE) and other instruments supporting the GPIB standard. Application: Used in laboratory setups, test systems, and other environments where multiple instruments need to be controlled and communicate with each other. The Teleprint 390 is german version of the Data Dynamics 390 which itself is an electronical remake of the Teletype Model 33 ASR [Automatic Send/Receive]. The Teleprint teletype has a built in paper tape reader and tape punch and uses eight-bit ASCII code including one parity bit. Communication is based on active 4-20 mA current loop control.

The Teletype 43 electro-mechanical printing terminal has been introduced in 1977. It uses the serial communication interface RS-232C based on 20 mA or 60 mA current loop. Baud Rates can vary from 100 upto 1800. It can be connected over long distances to a host computer. Typically, multiple remote teletype terminals were at that time connected to a central time-sharing system, a so-called mainframe.

The Teletype Model 33 is an electromechanical teleprinter introduced in 1963. The version available has a built-in eight-hole punched tape reader and tape punch. It can automatically send and receive messages. The teletype 33 is the first model that uses the standardized ASCII character encoding. The older teletype models use 5-bit Baudot code, common in telex communication.

TI Intelligent Computer Terminal DS990 [DS990] [Texas Instruments]

The DS990 (Model 1) computer system is brought on the market in 1978 as intelligent video terminal. As upgrade of a TI Series 700 Intelligent Terminals, it is actually the combined result of developments within Texas Instrument between several competing divisions. On the one hand based on a small scientific computer SR70 of the calculator division (also known as TI-99/7), on the other hand the result of computer system developments since 1970 by the TI home computer division. Finally, the intelligent terminal system models evolved concurrently with the TI-990 series of minicomputers. The systems were capable of running a stand-alone disk operating system. The later DS990/10 model was marketed as Computer Terminal Executive Development System.

The velotype is a special designed keyboard with an internal word processor by which texts can be typed quickly. A whole syllable can be typed with a single keystroke. The electronic velotype is a Dutch invention based on earlier mechanical stenographic machines. The keys are specially arranged with left typical initial consonants, on the right final consonants, and vowels in between. Different key combinations generate certain syllables based on statistical appearance.
